2016 Audi Q1 Front ViewThe 2016 Audi Q1 will be the newest entry SUV, and it boasts the title of the smallest premium crossover that you can find. Audi seems to be going smaller and smaller every year. The Audi Q1 has already entered into the production phase, and they are taking some of their final design concepts from the concept of the Crosslane Coupe that made its debut at an auto show in Paris last year. The car body is designed to look like a three-door, but it will be launched as a five-door. With upscale, contemporary interior the Audi Q1 boasts a bright future. There are also a few different rumors about the possibilities of a hatchback being added into the design.

The estimated reveal date for the 2014 Audi Q1 is set for sometime in the fall of 2015 before the company hosts a market launch the next year. $25,000 is the currently estimated base price. It doesn’t look like the Audi Q1 will make it to the United States, but production in Europe has been confirmed. If it is released in the United States, most of the features should be the same.

2016 Audi Q1 SideViewFeatures

Because the Audi Q1 isn’t going to be released until 2016, there isn’t a lot of concretely confirmed information in regards to the features that it will be released with. There is a lot of speculation about the Audi Company deciding to follow in the footsteps of a few of their previous models, while drawing inspiration for other vehicles that their engineers have seen elsewhere.

The base of the Audi Q1 will start by using the Volkswagen Group’s lightweight MQB modular-transversal architecture as inspiration for its design. It’s not the first car to go that route, but it has proven to be an effective option before. To back that up, the powertrain is rumored to be a four-cylinder turbocharged 1.4 liters that are combined with a six-speed manual. The other rumored available option is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. All of that will be supplemented by a 1.4 liter TDI turbo-diesel if you choose to take that option. The Audi Q1 will come with a standard four-wheel drive option, but it is rumored an all-wheel drive option for the Quattro is on the horizon. Considering Audi’s previous vehicles; this isn’t surprising.

2016 Audi Q1 BackViewAdvantages

Not much is known about the Audi Q1 just yet, but the details that have been released are all impressive. The sharp styling and refined interior make the Audi Q1 a visually pleasing car. The engine possibilities make the performance match the appearance in quality, and on top of that the estimated fuel economy is impressive. It is likely that Audi will follow in the footsteps of the MQB underpinnings and create a highly flexible platform, like the one that was used in the A3, which will make it an easy target for those looking to own a hybrid car with the potential for easy electrification and hybridization. In an age where the number of people that are aware of and cautious of their carbon footprint is growing, the ability to drive a little greener is always an attractive thing; especially when it isn’t forced by being included as the only available option.
