Since its emerged on the market in the 1960s, the Chevrolet Camaro has been named as one of the top muscle cars on the market. Marketed as such for the great sport car look and the pure power behind that car. This year new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is no different. Since it was introduced to the world at the 2013 New York Auto Show it has been turning heads. While the car may be a time-tested sign of yesteryear, this year’s model is being marketed as the most technologically advanced Camaro ever manufactured.
After just one glance, you can tell that this new model has an updated look. The smaller front upper grille matched with a wider lower front end was designed to provide better engine cooling capabilities. The layered fog lights, 20-inch wheels, and more rectangular rear headlights provide a new and stylish look. The overall design is meant to provide better aerodynamics and a better performing car. One thing that has not changed is the dual exhaust that still provides a loud rumbling noise, a trademark of the Camaro.
Drivers have two engine options, including the 3.6-liter V6 engine that provides 323 horsepower with 278 lb/ft of torque, and the more powerful 6.2-liter V8 engine that packs a 580 horsepower with 556 lb/ft of torque. The larger engine is powerful enough to go from zero to 60 in under six seconds, with a top speed of 184 miles per hour. Match this power with its Magnetic Ride Control, four-wheel independent suspension, and five performance settings, including sports and tour, and you have one great car.
While the exterior may be reminiscent of yesteryear, the interior has become more spacious and comfortable. Drivers have their choice of cloth or suede upholstery trimmed with red stitching to make a great impression. The interior is larger and comes with a 7-inch full color infotainment touchscreen system that is compatible with Bluetooth and SiriusXM Satellite radio with a Turn-by-Turn navigation system, a USB port, rear camera display, the OnStar emergency response system, and the newest Head-up display that allows the driver to see their controls without looking down while driving.
The only downside of this new model may be the low gas mileage that has been rated at 17 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. While this seems low it is fairly standard for sport car models.
Overall, there really is much to not like about the new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. It has the power, the look, and the new technology to make it one of the best sport cars in the 2014 lineup. It has received a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It received this award due to its many safety features, including StabiliTrak control, traction control, antilock braking system, daytime running headlights, side blind zone alert, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, six airbags, and Chevrolet’s customized safety cage construction.
This car is certainly getting a lot of attention and has not disappointed Camaro fans across the country.
